Nakao snow hut festival

This is Matsu.

It's February.This month is the coldest month in Japan.

There are winter festival going on across Japan such as Sapporo Yuki Matsuri.

There is also snow hut festival at Nakao onsen in Takayama.

Local people make some big snow huts.They entertain you .

Winter fireworks in Gero!!

There is winter fireworks in Gero every Saturday.












It has theme in line with the seasonal events.

14 February: Valentine's Day

18 February: The winter star sign

25 February: Make a wish for success

Time: 20:30～(10 min)

Place: Gero Bridge

It takes about 1 hour from Takayama to Gero, 950 yen by local train.
If you take Wide view Hida, 45 min, 1,990 yen.

The season of autumn leaves finally started at the middle of October.

I think it will be the best time to view autumn color of leaves in 10days.

You can enjoy it from middle of October to middle of November.

It is the season for harvesting rice at Hida Folk village.


There is a performance, Mochi pounding.

Shokawa-sakura free shuttle bus!!

Shokawa-sakura is one of famous and old tree in Takayama.

Usually, you need to take a public bus from Takayama station

or drive if you go there.

But they have free shuttle bus from Takayama station this year!!

The Art exhibition about Gogh and Sharaku

is being held in Hikaru Museum, Takayama

from February 26th to May 22th.















You can enjoy the art by Gogh, Monet, Corot,

Rouaul and Ukiyoe by Hiroshige Utagawa,

Hokusai Katsushika and Utamaro Kitagawa.


Ukiyoe had the biggest impact on their Arts.

It is going to be 52th fireworks event in Takayama.We have this once a year.So you can't miss it!!
There are so mamy types of firework such as Niagara Falls,Melody firework....etc.

There is fireworks event held at miyagawa river.

Takayama came to be known as hot spring city in the pase ten years.

There are 2 foot baths for free in Takayama.

Norikura Skyline

Hi there,it has been really hot across Japan hasn't it.
So it is good time to go hiking !!

I introduced one of Hiking place called Kamiko-chi last blog.Today let me introduce another one .
Norikura Skyline (Road for Mt Norikura) has opened.You can travel up the mountain along the Norikura Skyline, Japan’s highest-altitude mountain road.

This high area consisting of 23 ridges, 7 lakes, and 8 plains is collectively referred to as Mt. Norikura. The highest peak is Mt. Kengamine, 3,026 meters above sea level.

1 and half hour from Takayama Bus Terminal by Bus.

Open during from 15th May to 31st October.
Road available for 7:00 ~18:00 during May,June,October
for 3:30~18:00 during July,August,September






























There are walls of snow over 10 meters high on Norikura Skyline road.You could see that until the end of June.
