Summer in Japan is often assimilated to "bon dance".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
However, here in Takayama we hold quite a special one at the end of July :</div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
"Chokeramaika" Great masquerade Bon dance</h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
"<i>Chokeramaika</i>" means in Hida dialect : "<i>Won't you play around ?</i>"<br />The main point of this event is the masquerade parade of its participants. <br />Funny, colorful, ridiculous, etc. people create teams and come wearing costume to participate at this big event. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>When :</u> 2017 July, 29 ; from 19:00 to 20:30</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>Where :</u> San-no-machi shotengai, only 7min from J-Hoppers</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>What to bring :</u> your camera and smile </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Let's have fun together !</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

However GreenHotel is holding an event where even foreigners can enjoy this performance, and it's free !<br />
<br />
In March you can still view it on the 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th.<br />
The performance starts at 21:00 and lasts 2 hours.<br />
The performance changes every nights.<br />
<br />
The local sake bar opens at 20:30 and the costs varies.<br />
Snacks also available.<br />

"Takayama
is a popular
sightseeing spot in Japan, known for its picturesque old town that
is unchanged from the Edo period, its morning market, and one of the
most beautiful festivals in Japan, the Takayama
Festival.<br />
<br />
There is another thing that
you should not forget when visiting Takayama: the abundant local sake.
Six historical sake breweries are located in the town for you to visit on foot.<br />
<br />
Takayama Green Hotel, which is located near JR Takayama Station, holds a special event where you can
enjoy both a Jikabuki performance and the Jizake (local sake) of Takayama at the same time. Hello everyone !</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
Did you know that Takayama is a Muslims friendly city ?</h2>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A lot of visitors are from muslim countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
However it is not always easy for muslims to find places to go to eat outside...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But here in Takayama an association is working hard to help muslim to enjoy their trip.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Last week Takayama got 75cm in only 3 days, while Shirakawa-go got over 1m !<b> </b>And what may be more beautiful than winter landscape with light-up ?<br />
<br />
Of course Shirakawa-go will be running is main event from the 22nd of January every Sunday and Monday. But Takayama has also some beautiful places near by which get their own light-up.<br />
<br />
Like every season <b>Nakabashi, the red bridge, is illuminated between 19:00 and 22:00.</b> It is really near our hostel, only 5 minutes walk. If you are not afraid by the cold you will be able to take good pictures.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiudFFXBntB7OK9oVwnplsLEiGF8d_eUjDQoIfgHDdn1SwfnmPXR_Aywrzf6LBDIPy54yo-fSbENdlDa8XynT6q51lQI7Q08XCppvdev9fDH5upOTsLdXUkDwuY8T0oZ59lvFqc_G_6-dgF/s1600/20170121_100305.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiudFFXBntB7OK9oVwnplsLEiGF8d_eUjDQoIfgHDdn1SwfnmPXR_Aywrzf6LBDIPy54yo-fSbENdlDa8XynT6q51lQI7Q08XCppvdev9fDH5upOTsLdXUkDwuY8T0oZ59lvFqc_G_6-dgF/s400/20170121_100305.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
However if you allow yourself more time one of the best spot for winter illumination is definitely the Hida Folk Village ! <b>The open air museum light-up is run every day from 17:30 to 21:00. Entrance fee is 300 yen per adult and 100 yen per child.</b> You will enjoy Gassho-zukuri style house covered by snow like you were in Shirakawa-go in a less crowded environment. <br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To reach the Hida Folk village from J-Hoppers :</div>

It was a really light snow but our manager made us betting on the first snow date and won. This was a little game in our team but really enjoyable.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
<b>Then if it snowed in the city it is even better on the mountains ! </b></h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
<b>The ski resort CIAO open on the 11th.</b></h4>
<a href="http://www.ciao.co.jp/parts/images/about/img_map.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.ciao.co.jp/parts/images/about/img_map.jpg" height="320" width="257" /></a><br />
If you want to enjoy walking in the winter landscape why not going there for one day and use the lift and gondola to get on the best spot ?<br />
<br />
Until the 31th of December, one day ticket is only 1,000 yen per person. And if we get lucky the snow may fall again soon ! Then get your gear ready to ride on the white carpet !<br />
<br />
Even if you never ski before you will certainly enjoy trying this outdoor sport !Nanahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875911341200708116noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7769032701498797338.post-63530159166317721762016-10-31T21:31:00.003+09:002016-10-31T21:31:15.390+09:00Update on Autumn colors in Takayama (Oct 31) <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It was supposed to be your correspondent's day off today but he failed to finish all his work (poor him!) the previous day and had to go reluctantly to work today. But luckily he managed to finish<br />
all the remaining tasks in the morning, and after a quick lunch, and armed with his new iphone (your correspondent dropped his iphone 5 on the ground, broke it, bought a new phone, then dropped it into the toilet in less than two weeks, necessitating the purchase of yet another phone; your correspondent is broke right now), he headed down to the Shiroyama Park to check out the autumn colors. Rumor has it that the autumn colors this year are less vivid than in a regular year because of heavy rainfall in the last few months, and I am afraid I have to agree. But still you can spot trees with vividly red maple leaves here and there in the park. Based on my experience, the autumn colors here are still a week away from its peak, as we are expecting the weather to turn pretty cold next week, which will hopefully speed up the change of colors. So don't forget to check out the Shiroyama park in a week! (Don't forget your bear bell...just in case).<br />

Summer is hot and full of festival in Japan !</h2>
Do you know "<i>obon</i>" ? It is a Buddhist custom to celebrate the ancestors. "<b><i>Bon odori</i></b>" means "<i>bon dance</i>", which is a dance to celebrate the ancestors' spirits. Each city has its own dance and music, but it is always constructed with a pattern which is repeated all along the song, and people usually dance in circles. <i><b>Let's try to dance with locals !</b></i><br />
<br />
In Takayama near the J-Hoppers Hida Takayama we will have a lot of opportunities to dance and wear yukata ! <i><b>You should try to wear it at least once if you come to Japan during summer !</b></i> Yukata can be easily rented.<br />
