It's getting colder in Takayama.

But I think snow mountain is more beautiful than usual.

Kamiko-chi is going to be closed

Hi there,I am Matsu from J-Hoppers Hida Takayama.

It is getting cold in Takayama.It seems winter season will be coming soon.

As you might know,Kamiko-chi is going to be closed on 16h Nov.

So this week is last chance to go there for the year.

It will be open in middle of April next year.

Also there is Shin-hotaka Alps close to the Kamiko-chi.
You can visit there all year.

This area is 90minutes from Takayama by bus.
There are a lot of onsens you can take surrounded by amazing outdoor views

Rally Nippon 2010

"Rally Nippon 2010" is coming to Takayama !!

About 70 classic cars come round the history cultural heritages of Japan.
The rally is held four days 5th Nov. to 8th Nov.

They will come to Takayama on the 2nd day (6th of November)
Place: Sanmachi street (3 min walk from J-Hoppers)
Time: 11:30 to 14:00

Festival for the culture and industrials in Takayama

Takayama is famous for the wood crafting.

There is a festival for the culture and industrial in Takayama.



You can see a beautiful furniture and wood crafts.
Also , you can make an music box by yourself.

Main entrance door was just renovated.

Hi there ,I am Matsu from J-hoppers Hida Takayama.

Recently we had the main door renovated.

The last door was slide door. So when the door was opend, all the warm air inside got cold .

Also the door made some squeaking noises.

The width of the door is wide enough that backpackers have easy access to come through with carrying large luggage



















I hope evryone will like the door.

The autumn festival is also known as Hachiman Festival.

Autumn Illumination in Hida Takayama

It's getting cold as days go by.
The season for autumn leaves will started at the beginning of October.
This year, we had extremely hot summer. But it will be largely unaffected
Changes in temperature and light affect the color of leaves.

Takayama has many good spots for viewing autumn leaves, such as Nakabashi-bridge, Kokubunji-temple, Higashiyama walking course and Enako river.
Some of these spots will be illuminated from beginning-October to early November to allow evening viewing of the trees.
For example, the Nakabashi Bridge is illuminated soon after dark to create a fantastic view of the surrounding area.

You can not only enjoy local food such as Hida beef,hoba miso,grilled river fish,mitarashi dango but also local foods from Toyama prefecture and Fukui prefecture!!.

Jumble market

Garakuta Fair (Jumble market)


An antique fair started in 1982. Held on the first Sunday of the month from April to October. The streets are temporarily closed to vehicles (called “pedestrians’ paradise”) and over 20 art dealers have stalls on the street. You will enjoy looking at olden daily-life utensils while strolling down the street.

Event is on every first Sunday.
Open hours is form 9am to 5pm
Next event is held on 5th of September.

The bon holiday is a Buddhist festival to recognize ancestral spirits.

A lot of people take days off and there are many events during this period.

Hand Holding FireWorks.


On the 9th of August, there is a fireworks event in Takayama.

It called "Tedutsu Hanabi" (Hand holding fireworks).
Tedutu Hanabi is fireworks that pack gunpowder into one-meter bamboo tube, and do while holding it by the person. Tesutsu fireworks are fireworks of not the launch type but the blowing up type, and when it is large, the pillar of fire becomes as much as ten-odd meters.



This event also for the ceremony to drive away evil spirits.
Let's go to see this and get a good luck.

Have you seen Sumo Wrestler?

You have chance to see Sumo Wrestlers's Camp

on 29 and 30 July
at the roadside station

of Hida Asahi villege.


You can feel free to see their sumo practice

between 8am-10am.




And there will be a festival on 31 July.

It is going to be 52th fireworks event in Takayama.We have this once a year.So you can't miss it!!
There are so mamy types of firework such as Niagara Falls,Melody firework....etc.

Memories of the Trip

The rainy season has started in Hida Takayama.


I was looking for something to do when its raining.

I found a place where you can make a memories of your Takayama trip.

My favorite work is making a
cracker made from glutinous rice

There are five kiln for the rice cracker grilling.
When the raw material of a thin rice cracker of about seven centimeters in the diameter is burnt, it becomes about three times size.
The taste of the warm rice cracker that is different from shops.
There are soy source taste and salt taste.

I think one of the pleasures of traveling will be having local foods.

Today, I'm going to show you lovely cafe in Takayama.

It is called ”Fukyu-an", and it is located at Shimo ichi no-machi area.
